Herodotus and the Road to History
Liar...or Father of History?
"I heard whispers in the audience that I had made everything up; that I hadn't gone to all those places. Instead of being entertained and enlightened, some in my audiences had the audacity to call me a liar!"
But Herodotus, a contemporary of Old Testament Malachi, had indeed recorded his "historie," - the Greek word meaning "inquiry" - from his own extensive journeys. Granted, it took an exceptionally curious Greek to leave civilzation behind for nine years just to travel the northern lands, recording the past events, customs and geographical settings of these (barbaric) peoples. No doubt about it, this was an exteme idea for 460 B.C. - but to Herodotus a fascinating one! And what mysterious, exciting and amusing things did he find and record in his travels to the distant lands of Syria, Persia and Egypt? Now YOU can find out for yourself by traveling with Herodotus...on the road to history.
