Gauguin - Art Cards
French artist Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) was an outstanding stylistic innovator who pioneered an appreciation of the simple and primitive in art. Among the greatest of the Postimpressionists, he captured on canvas many aspects of peasant life in Brittany early in his career, but spent the last ten years of his life panting in Tahiti and the Marquesas Islands. There, the flat, contoured figures he had used to depict Breton peasants gradually matured into the richly colored images of his South Sea period.
