In 1755, a young African boy was kidnapped, hidden in an enormous sack, and carried off into slavery. SO began a series of journeys that would take him halfway around the world--and a struggle for freedom that would make him famous. Later, when he wrote his autobiography, it became a bestseller. He described for the world the evils of slavery--and in doing so, helped to end it. The boy's name was Olaudah Equiano.

A gripping adaptation of one of the first known slave narratives, Equiano tells of the 11 years he spent in slavery in England, the United States, and the West Indies, until he was able to buy his freedom.
