Art Basics for Children

This drawing book is geared to younger children or students just beginning a study of art. It teaches basic drawing skills in a unique format of the ABC's an example would be A is for apple--drawing and shading an apple, red as a primary color, etc. B is for ball -- put a pattern on the ball -- a pattern is a repeated design. Before the actual lessons in this book, you get a wonderful section on using art supplies (finally, someone has taken the time to explain those pencil grades!). There are lots of ""how tos"" and incredible tips for drawing with pencil and charcoal, using oil pastels, tempera paints, water colors, and chalk pastels. Following is a page of ""recipes"" for different modeling compounds, including an edible clay! While it looks as though a seven year-old child would be able to do and enjoy the exercises, an adult would be equally instructed! This is an art course you can definitely use with all of your children at once! Lessons are sequential and build on each previous lesson.
